It's possible than my previous failures to boot could have been failures of the display, but I also didn't hear any startup chime, but I'd also muted the sound before I put it to sleep last night.
Both external displays and the built-in display went dark at the same time. I deleted a bunch of stuff from the USB Time Machine disk, and I'm attempting a backup now.īut is this display wonkiness something that anyone else has ever seen before? One external display is connected via a TB-DVI adapter and DVI cable, and the other external display is connected to the HDMI port. I was about to give up, and then noticed the fans were still running, so I screen-shared in from my ancient early 2011 13" MBP, and it worked! That's how I'm posting this now. Once booted I connected my two external displays and attempted to get copy some key information off the unit (last Time Machine backup was August 2022), and after being alive for about 5 minutes, all 3 displays gave a flash of despair and then went dark. etc., and then finally got it to boot after 30 minutes of desperation one one false start (Apple logo for 2 seconds, and then dark). I tried a hard shutdown, resetting the SMC, etc. When I tried to wake it from sleep this morning it spontaneously rebooted, and then the Apple logo came up for a few seconds, and then. My mid-2014 15" MBP may finally be dying.
